Supporting your local bakery

Real Bread Week is the celebration of supporting your local bakery as well as baking your own bread. It runs all this week!

Health experts don’t recommend white bread, but wholemeal bread is full of goodness…

  • It contains healthy carbs that digest slowly and fill us up, meaning there’s less temptation to nibble on more food and put on calories. These carbs reduce the chances of getting type 2 diabetes, strokes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, colon cancer as well as becoming obese. Plus, they are a fantastic energy booster.
  • It will get your hair and skin looking better as it’s full of protein and B vitamins.
  • You’ll feel a happy boost too as these carbs increase the brain’s levels of feel-good compound serotonin.

Especially look out for breads containing grains and seeds as these are also packed with healthy goodness such as iron, calcium, potassium, protein and vitamin E. Fresh bread is better of course, much tastier … and what about that irresistible freshly baked bread aroma too!

Then remember to make sure what you put in any sandwiches or on any toast you make is packed full of tasty goodness too! We’re thinking salad and/or tuna sandwiches; and avocados or beans with marmite on toast…
