Men’s Health Week

Get Involved in Men's Health Week - NRG Gym Advice

It’s Men’s Health Week, a time of awareness for health issues that affect men more than they should. The focus for this year is on the impact of inequality and deprivation on men’s health.

So here are some healthy things you can do that won’t break the bank.

  • Meditation. It’s been proven for years to boost health and wellbeing. If you’ve never tried it, try a simple one where you light a candle, then focus on the flame for ten minutes while you repeat a couple of words that are important to you. As you get along with this over time, increase your focus up to 30 minutes.
  • Swimming. You could try the sea, or if it’s too rough or cold, get to a lake or river if you’re a good swimmer and with friends. Or there are always public swimming pools, where a good swim shouldn’t cost you much more than a few quid.
  • Gardening. It will give you some fresh air (just finding anywhere with fresh air is a great health boost) and is thought to be meditative in itself. If you don’t have your own garden ask a friend, consider an allotment or just get yourself some plants in pots for your house.
  • Walking and running. But if the weather’s terrible, as it is all too often in Britain, get down to the treadmills at our gyms.
