It’s a great energy booster

Nutritional Benefits of Pumpkins - NRG Gym Health Advice

Unless you’ve been wearing a werewolf mask the wrong way round you will have noticed Halloween is here…! That’s great because it’s actually healthy to get a little scared: adrenaline and dopamine flow into us, upping the heart rate and flooding muscles with oxygen to prepare for fight or flight. It’s a great energy booster.

It’s also, of course, good for us to let go and have a party. Getting dressed up as Dracula, Frankenstein, Uncle Fester or whatever is bound to bring on a smile, then there’s the socialising involved with all those ghosts and ghouls: human beings are made to be together, to connect with each other. It makes us feel good.

As well, there’s the eating of the traditional Halloween fruits of pumpkins and apples too, when playing the apple bobbing game. Apples are rich in antioxidants that help protect our cells from damage caused by such as cigarette smoke, UV rays, pollution and inflammation within the body.

They also contain dietary fibre needed for a healthy digestive system, plus they have vitamins A and C to support the immune system, vitamin K for blood clotting, vitamin B7 to help break down fat, and iodine that helps with healthy thyroid function. Pumpkins are full of potassium, fibre and vitamin C, all essential too for great health.

There’s enough reason to dress up, get out there, join in with all the fun – and lift your spirits!
