It’s No Smoking Day this week (on the 14th), an annual campaign intended to help people who want to quit smoking.
According to the NHS, smoking is the biggest cause of preventable deaths in the country, causing more than 80,000 deaths every year. One in two smokers will die from a smoking-related disease, and for most of the others their health will suffer in some way.
This week it’s the tenth anniversary of Real Bread Week. But there’s bread, and there’s bread. All sorts. For instance, if you want to be fit and healthy we can’t recommend white bread – it can do more harm than good by providing few nutrients but plenty of calories, as well as causing blood-sugar levels to rocket, only then to crash.
The aim of National Longevity Day (Monday 19th February) is to get more people to realise that diet, lifestyle choices and exercise now will have a huge impact on them in later life.
