Bird Watching?!

Yes, bird watching. The Big Schools’ Birdwatch runs from 6th January to 21st February, ok I hear you, what has this got to do with the gym? Well, sometimes people need an excuse to get out and get some extra exercise in. Just because you go to the gym a number of times a week doesn’t mean that you don’t have to keep it going at home.

Exercise doesn’t just have to be at the gym, keeping up healthy habits at home will boost your success and health in the long run. Getting out for a walk or a run is a great way to get your daily steps in, get some fresh air and get your heart rate up.

When you have kids it can be hard to find the time to keep up your fitness at home, so any way of getting the kids involved is great, you’ll kill two birds with one stone (inappropriate pun not intended!). Kids love a game and getting them to look for birds while you’re all out getting some exercise could be more fun than you think. It also raises awareness for the care of our native birds, and you never know you might just learn something. I know it’s winter and not the most inviting time to be outside, but the health benefits will outweigh the potentially soggy time out with the family.
