Love is in the air! This is the week for all lovers to stare into each other’s starry eyes… In case you’ve forgotten (as if!), it’s Valentine’s Day on the 14th.
But even if you’re not in love or going to have trouble opening the front door due to the sheer weight of Valentine’s Day cards you can show some healthy self-love. Make your own heart beat stronger by giving yourself the gift of exercise and good health (Of course, you can do this as well if you are in love or receive a million Valentine’s cards!).
If you are single, vow to start now and by this time next year you’ll be fitter and look and feel better, so be more likely to receive one of those slushy cards. And if you are in a loving relationship, keep them fancying you like mad by getting fitter and looking and feeling better.
Here are a few reasons why a gym session is good for you and your heart:
- It will make you feel better about yourself, and so happier – and being happy is great for your heart.
- Numerous studies have shown that socialisation is a positive thing for people. Actually we know this without the studies: it’s our natural way. Yet in our modern world of devices there’s less social contact between people than ever before. We have fantastic teams at our gyms, and the people who visit us to train are fantastic too! Come along and hang out with us while you’re getting fitter.
- Your heart is a muscular organ at the centre of your circulatory system. It pumps blood to and from all areas of your body. If you don’t use it, it’ll get weaker and as less blood is pumped around, you’ll find you are able to do less and less. So get it pumping by exercising on such as a treadmill or exercise bike. Give yourself a strong heart!
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week to help lower blood pressure, lose weight and improve cholesterol. Your heart will beat better.
We don’t think there’s anything wrong with loving yourself: in fact it means you’ll be better able – with more strength, energy and less illness – to help your family, friends and colleagues. Love is an action!
